Assessments
Dr. de Jong has a variety of assessment tools such as personality assessment inventories and career tests as well as 'computer based' measures.  These tools help him to measure your interests and personality as well as factors such as your ability to pay attention.  With the biofeedback technology it is possible to quantify your brainwave activity, heart rate variability, muscle tension, skin conductivity (sweat response), body temperature changes and respiration.

AUTO ACCIDENT ASSESSMENT
If you're coming to treatment due to an auto accident, whether as a driver, passenger, pedestrian or cyclist, you'll be spending a few hours detailing your life before the accident and exploring the impact the accident has had on your social, emotional, occupational and spiritual functioning.  Dr. de Jong will also be asking you to complete some assessment inventories while you're in the office and using these to prepare a report for your lawyer; the person that likely referred you to his office.  Typically, assessments require about 3 to 5 hours of your time and are paid for by your lawyer or ICBC.  Treatment for automobile driving anxiety or some of the other after-effects, e.g., depression, adjustment problems or PTSD, range in time from a few sessions to many months of treatment, depending on your situation.  Again, these are often paid for by your lawyer or ICBC. BRAINWAVE ASSESSMENT
If you're coming to see Dr. de Jong for biofeedback treatment, he may be assessing your physiological reactivity to stress as indicated by your heart rate, muscle tension, breathing rate, heart rate variability, skin temperature and skin conductivity level (the sweat response).  He may also be measuring your brainwave activity with the use of an EEG machine.  The psychophysiological and brainwave assessment take about two hours.  You should talk to Dr. de Jong before these types of assessments for special instructions concerning medication, caffeine consumption and other factors that may affect the results of the assessment.
